Organizing Poker Pals

I’ve been digging myself out of the backlog of stuff that I had to suspend during the ‘fog of war’ that accompanies any major move. If anyone out there has tried to contact me, please know that I didn’t ignore you – my email box just became so stuffed with things you were prolly just lost in the noise. Send it again – I’ll be better about replying this time, I promise.
One email that I managed to pull up out of the noise was for a site called PokerPal.org. They provide a free service that coordinates poker players for home games. You should check them out – I found about 20 possible games within 5 miles of my house. When you search (you can do this by zipcode/stakes/game type, etc) you are given the option of sending an email to whomever has decided to register their homegame with the site. I sent a few requests off after registering my name and preferences into their database. You can search all of the players in your area if you are looking to start a game as well. I did a search and found someone with interests that matched my own and apparently lived very close, so I sent an email. He lived within 0 miles of me. An email arrived in my inbox instantly. Yep – I managed to invite myself to play poker with…myself. Duh!
There is no charge for their service. Pretty much every poker player I know is a cheapskate (myself included!) so they certainly know their market. Here is what they said in their email to me:
Lastly, we want to build up the poker “action” in your neighborhood. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could literally walk out your front door and down the block to one of several poker games or, host a hold’em tournament and have it booked to capacity in a matter of an hour from the time you post your listing? Well, that’s our vision as well, so we hope that as you come to appreciate all of the cool free services we offer that you’ll send the word out to all your poker buddies and tell them to check us out.
I say best of luck to them – I’ll let you know how it works out for me in my search for a good home game.

On a separate note – did anyone else out there find it funny that Lee Watkinson has a monkey named C.J.? This was one of ESPN’s filler pieces during their recent airing of the $10K PL Omaha WSOP event that Watkinson took down.
Don’t forget about the WPBT Circuit Event on Sunday Oct 29th. The human C.J. will be there to try and make up the 5 points by which he trails me. At least I think it will be the human one – sometimes I can’t tell in these on-line events.

Damn…I have to miss the stud tourney on the 29th…oh well…I’ll be celebrating my birthday at Mohegan Sun (and get an extra hour of booze and blackjack with the fall-back time)….have fun!
